Help
Biro answers a question by drawing it: a diagram appears on a board, one piece at a time, while the tutor explains it out loud.
Starting something
On Home, type what you want to work on and press Enter. A new board opens and the answer starts drawing. Brainstorm, Plan and Learn only start the sentence for you; Blank canvas opens an empty board to draw on.
On a board, ask follow-up questions in the bar at the bottom. Draw or circle something first and your question is about that part. The + beside it opens into a few quick actions, adding material, sharing your screen, practice, which you choose by pressing and holding it or in Preferences. What you do to the board itself, take back the last answer, jump to an earlier one, save an answer as an image, is in the ⋯ beside its name.
Talking to it
The microphone only turns on when you press a mic button: Speak on Home, or Talk to it on a board. With Let me interrupt switched on, it also listens while an answer is being read aloud, so you can cut in with your next question.
Narrate answers reads each answer aloud. It can be switched for one board from the speaker beside the mic, and the default is in Preferences.
Asking about part of the board
Select something with Point: tap it, drag a box around it, or Shift-tap several things. A small menu appears beside it. Ask about this puts the cursor in the question bar with the selection attached. Explain this asks straight away, and Check my work asks the tutor to check your own writing or drawing. From the keyboard, press Tab to reach the menu and Escape to put it away.
Exploring graphs
Select a mathematical graph’s curve, axis or title on the board, then choose Explore graph in the menu beside it. Move the slider, or focus it and use arrow keys, to inspect x and the function values. Escape or Close returns to the saved drawing. Exploration also works after reopening the board.
Charts use the supplied data. A note below each chart names its source or identifies illustrative values.

PDFs
Add a PDF from Home with the paperclip, from a board’s +, or by dropping it on a board. Its pages go onto the board, a whole lecture deck at once (up to 300 pages, or what a synced board’s 25 MB holds), and the tutor reads the text so you can ask about it. On any page, Ask about this slide sends that page with your question, and the answer goes beside it. Write on a page with the pen: your writing stays on that page and syncs with the board.
Boards and Trash
Every board is kept in the library, newest first on Home and all together in All boards, where you can search titles and what is on them. Star a board to keep it in Starred.
Moving a board to Trash hides it; restore it from Trash at any time in the next 30 days. After that it is deleted for good.
Keyboard
- Ctrl + K (or ⌘ + K) on a board puts the cursor in the question bar.
- Enter sends a question.
- Esc closes a menu or dialog.
- ? on a board lists the drawing shortcuts.
Plans and your daily allowance
Free includes 70 typed answers a day, without cloud voice. How many are left today is always in the board’s top bar and on Account. The day resets at midnight UTC, which the board says in your own time (8 PM in New York). With none left you can still open your boards and read your answers and notes.
Pro, $12 a month when paid plans open, has unlimited typed answers within fair use, and voice: talk to Biro and hear it explain. Fair use means what one person asking for themselves would use; if an account asks far more than that in a day, Biro slows it down or rests it until the next day, and says so.
Where your data lives
Boards are saved in this browser, on this device only. Nothing is backed up online, and clearing the browser’s data deletes them. See Your data to download your boards or delete what is stored.
